Shocked!Photos vapourised! A digital lesson learnt.

Shocked!I have been an regular user of splashblog,www.splashblog.com,since i am having a windows mobile phone. After transferred to a different place and did not activated my gprs, I did not use splash blog for quite some time.Suddenly today morning i came to upload some photo and shocked to see the blog is not there and after search i found the company and site is closed. Now all my photos are lost!.I have written an appreciation mail to splashblog when i used there service. But now it is horrible to imagine my photos have vapourised. It is a shame for digital companies, since we are using their service for free does not mean , it can be wiped out. This gives a feeling the web is not matured yet and the responsibility of the companies are only ,limited, unlike brick.May be we should create a digital warehouse, to save the data in the web and make the companies responsibility to dump there in case of acquisition or shutting down to safeguard the data, so that the interested parties may pay some amount and retrieve the data. Lessons learnt- Data on web is not safe , Have a back up.

I am having an account (PAID!) in www.imagestation.com by SONY. Recently I got a mail saying, Sony is going to close down the online photo service from Jan or Feb 2008. In the mail they have given few options for the users.
1. Download a software which will download all images from web to local at one shot (it had resume facility also) - I used this
2. Get a DVD (you have to pay for shipment)
3. Transfer to free www.shutterfly.com.

Atter I downloaded all my photos (close to 1.3 GB), i selected the transfer to shutterfyl option. It showed me that it would take 10 days!!! but the next day I got a mail that it was done. I logged into shutterfly, all my albums with comments - all are there. GREAT.

So, may be FREE has its own risk !? or people doesn't bother about customers who are using FREE service ??? NEED A CHANGE AS YOU SAID.
